With hundreds of cyclists expected to descend on Mysuru for the Indian edition of L’Étape Mysuru, a world-renowned cycling series, the Mysuru City Police have issued a traffic advisory ahead of the event on Sunday.

Organised by NEB Sports in association with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and Karnataka Tourism, the cycling event will be flagged off from the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple near the North Gate of the iconic Mysuru Palace at 6 a.m.

As the event will pass through several roads in and around the city between 6 a.m. and 10.30 a.m., the City Police have advised motorists to avoid the race route and use alternative roads wherever possible.

According to a note issued by Assistant Director, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Mysuru, Bhaskar Nayak, the cyclists will proceed from Mysuru Palace through D. Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road, Ramaswamy Circle, 100 Feet Road, Gun House Circle, Nanjangud Road, Rajahamsa Junction, Lorry Terminal, Chamappaji Road, CAR Junction, Tavarekatte, Chamundi Hill Road, Uttanahalli, Hosahundi Ring Road, T. Narasipura Ring Road Junction, T. Narasipura, Suttur, Varuna and Hoshahalli.

From there, the route will proceed via Doctors’ Community Hall, Lalitha Mahal Road, Sangolli Rayanna Circle, MRC Signal and Karanji Lake Tank Bund Road before the race concludes on F.K. Irani Road.

The public has been requested to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes wherever possible, and follow instructions issued by traffic police and diversion signboards during the event.

In a separate advisory, the Mysuru City Police have asked the public to avoid the roads along the cycling route and connecting roads during the event.

The roads identified for avoidance by the City police are Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road, Chamaraja Double Road, Nanjangud Road, Chamappaji Road, Chamundi Hill Road, Alanahalli Road, Lalitha Mahal Road and Karanji Lake Tank Bund Road.

“Traffic congestion is likely on roads connecting to and along the race route. To manage the movement of vehicles, the police have advised the public to use alternative roads during the event,” the statement said.

The public has also been requested to plan their journeys in advance and comply with the instructions of traffic police and traffic diversion arrangements during the cycling race.

Meanwhile, a statement from the organisers said Tourism Minister K.J. George would flag off the cycling series.

The 100-km Elite Men’s Race, the competitive category, will begin at 6 a.m., while the 100-km Open Race for men and women will be flagged off at 6.10 a.m. This will be followed by the 50-km Open Race at 6.45 a.m.

The 20-km Family Fun Ride will be flagged off at 7 a.m., while the 1-km Kids & Community Ride will begin at 9 a.m.

“Participants are being advised to arrive well in advance of their respective flag-off times to allow for check-in, preparation and access to the start area,” the organisers said.

The organisers said the event had attracted interest from both domestic and international riders, with entries received from riders from five countries — the United States, Australia, Mexico, Sri Lanka and France — besides participants from more than 12 Indian States.

The organisers expect the inaugural edition of L’Étape Mysuru to draw around 2,500 riders.
