Transport Minister orders probe into company linked to businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama - EWN
Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy has ordered an investigation into the company linked to Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama, following a video showing him verbally assaulting women at a Sandton restaurant.
Creecy has directed the board of the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) to establish whether engineering and construction company Moriel Infrastructure Group was appointed in accordance with the law and whether it is complying with the terms of its contract.
Itβs also emerged that Moriel Infrastructure Group has secured millions of rands in government contracts, bringing the companyβs dealings under the public's microscope.
Mudzinganyama is now under the radar of police, potentially Home Affairs, SANRAL and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) over his dealings with the state.
Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean Macpherson has also ordered an investigation into the construction company over allegations that it obtained multiple CIDB gradings on the same day.
He said further allegations suggest the company may not have met the requirements for those gradings, which may then have been used to secure government contracts.
