A frail-looking woman, 36, from a tribal hamlet had to carry her 11-year-old sick daughter to ensure treatment at a government hospital in S. Kota on Sunday as her native village was cut off from mainland in the aftermath of Cyclone Arnab.
In a viral video, the woman, Sunkaramma, from Pallapu Dungada village carried her daughter Sampoorna on her shoulder and walked for seven kilometres on Sunday traversing the hilly terrain of the tribal areas as she was left with no other option for the treatment. In the absence of first aid and transport facility in the tribal hamlet, she carried the girl on her shoulder in spite of heavy pain.
S. Kota government hospital authorities had provided treatment to the girl and extended their support to the woman who looked weak after walking for long distance with her daughter and a carry bag on one hand. District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy had reportedly asked S. Kota officials to inquire over the incident and ensure proper motorable road connectivity to the village.
The officials reportedly told him that the road got damaged due to heavy inflow of rain water due to the impact of Arnab cyclone. S. Kota MLA Kolla Lalitha Kumari said she would request the government to provide additional funds to improve road connectivity from S. Kota and Kothavalasa to several tribal villages located in her constituency.
