Tribal leader Nisha Bhagat died by suicide in Ranchi after accusing several people of harassment during a Facebook Live session shortly before her death. She also reportedly called the officer-in-charge of Pithoria police station and told him that she was going to take her own life.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the allegations made during the Facebook Live session as well as her conversation with the police officer. The reason behind her death has not yet been established.

Reacting to her death, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth expressed grief and alleged that the government and police administration had harassed Bhagat.

"It is extremely tragic. She was an Adivasi daughter who had done a lot of work at the social level and was fighting for various causes. The way the government and police administration harassed her is unforgivable. She died by suicide. This reminds me of Roopa Tirkey's case in Dumka, where justice was not delivered. What is happening in police stations? Daughters are not safe here. This is extremely heartbreaking news," Seth said. - EndsInputs from Akash
