Trump sets key condition for accepting 2026 midterm election results - The News International
On Tuesday, President Trump said that he will abide by next week’s midterm results “if they are honest elections”, in the wake of mounting apprehension from Democrats over his pre-election rhetoric.
Trump’s comments come at Joint Base Andrews prior to embarking on a campaign trip to Texas. Earlier, Trump warned in a Truth Social post that he is closely observing voter fraud in Minnesota’s Senate race which has emerged as one of the cycle’s premier battlegrounds.
The comment triggered a prompt public outcry from Minnesota Democrats including Sen. Tina Smith, setting the stage to accuse the president of laying the groundwork to undermine the election.
Smith posted on social platform X, “He’s blatantly laying the groundwork to steal an election if his chosen candidate doesn’t win… Minnesota will not take kindly to thinly veiled threats from a guy we’ve rejected three times (soon to be four).”
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit indicating it would hinder the findings of Alaska’s Senate race if incumbent Sen.Dan Sullivan loses his election bid, accusing another candidate in the race, Dan J.Sullivan of engaging in voter deception.
Trump inflamed protesters who then attacked the US Capitol in January 2021 in a bid to stop the final election certification, following his loss to Joe Biden. Furthermore, critics now fear Trump is laying the groundwork to challenge the results of the midterms or even invoke emergency powers.
