Trump speaks to UN General Assembly

Leaders from around the world delivered speeches at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. US President Donald Trump was among those taking the podium.

Mentioning the situation in Iran, he said: "I have a big decision to make: Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before? Maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East, or even the world. Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?"

He added that he is expecting a deal to happen after the US midterm elections in November.

The US president also touched on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, saying he is working "very closely with the leaders" of both countries. He added that his administration "will get that one done" more "quickly."

Trump used part of his speech to address the issue of AI, saying the US "totally rejects" attempts to rein in the technology.

He said: "I'm not going to stifle growth of something that will be bigger than the industrial revolution, many say bigger than the industrial revolution or the internet itself."

He added that the US is ahead of China and other nations in terms of AI, saying his country will "safely and responsibly" lead the world in what he calls "super intelligence."

The Trump administration has been stepping up pressure on the International Criminal Court, including its president, Akane Tomoko.

He described the ICC as "anti-American" and an "evil group of people," and he called on member nations to resign from the institution immediately.
