President Donald Trump started off his last public speech before tomorrow’s midterms by highlighting one of his biggest second-term focuses: beautifying Washington, DC.

Speaking in front of the Reflecting Pool, Trump went into the renovations in depth before turning to the campaign.

“The Democrat Party has nominated the most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history,” Trump said as he listed off his administration’s accomplishments.

But even as he addressed the upcoming election, Trump returned at times to his Washington projects. Trump has turned his gaze back to the capital as Republicans face a steep climb to hang onto their congressional majorities, with voters unhappy about the Iran war and the economy.

Trump at one point acknowledged that reality, noting that “the sitting president doesn’t win the midterms.” But, he added, “we gave this a very strong shot.”
