Chinese President Xi Jinping is paying a state visit to the US. He will be meeting President Donald Trump for their second summit this year, following Trump's visit to Beijing in May.

A welcoming ceremony will be held on Thursday at the White House, followed by the summit and a state dinner.

The two leaders will likely discuss US arms sales to Taiwan, which China strongly opposes.

The conflict in Iran will be another topic. The US has been stepping up pressure on Tehran with economic sanctions.

Washington and Beijing have been engaged in a tug-of-war over artificial intelligence. One focus of discussion will be safety related to AI, while another will be establishing a framework for dialogue.
