Tsakane Matlala and co-accused get R20,000 bail while husband Cat remains in custody - IOL

Tsakane Matlala has been granted R20,000 bail in a fraud case while her husband, alleged underworld tycoon Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, remains in custody.

Tsakane Matlala and two co-accused have been granted R20,000 bail each, while her husband, alleged cartel leader Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, remains behind bars as a separate fraud investigation gathers pace.

The Pretoria Magistrate's Court granted bail to Tsakane, Given Makofane and Claudette Masethe on Wednesday, a day after the trio was arrested over an alleged fraudulent lease involving a luxury property in Waterkloof Ridge.

They face allegations linked to a lease worth R95,000 a month.

Investigators are examining claims that fraudulent documents were used to acquire properties and secure the agreement, with nearly R1.2 million reportedly paid upfront.

The three were released subject to strict conditions, including reporting to a police station and surrendering their travel documents.

Matlala, however, remains in custody and is expected to return to court in October for his bail proceedings.

Police are also investigating allegations that one suspect used fraudulent documents to obtain Eswatini citizenship, adding another layer to the probe.

Tsakane is already facing charges alongside her husband in a separate criminal matter involving attempted murder and other allegations.

Authorities have stressed that the new fraud investigation is separate from that case.
