Two persons killed in road accident near Walajah

Two senior citizens were killed in a road accident after the moped they were travelling on was hit by a private town bus in Ammoor village on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as K. Chandran, 68, a retired bank staff, and his friend B. Lakshman, 71, a farmer. They belonged to Melvelam village near Walajah town.
The police said that Chandran was riding the vehicle on the way to his house with Lakshman riding pillion. As Chandran tried to cross Arakkonam – Sholingur main road, a private town bus hit the moped.
Passersby and other motorists admitted them to Government Taluk Hospital in Walajah town where they succumbed to injuries. A case was registered. Later, bus driver S. Mahendran, 47, a resident of Vellore, was arrested and lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
