Two women among five arrested after alleged rape of Cape Town e-hailing driver - IOL

Two women and three men have been arrested after an e-hailing driver was allegedly kidnapped, raped and held for a R4,000 ransom in Cape Town.

A 25-year-old e-hailing driver was allegedly raped by two women after he went to meet one of them, only to be kidnapped and held for a R4,000 ransom.

Five suspects have since been arrested after Steenberg police tracked the driver’s vehicle to Southampton Road in Heathfield and rescued him on Saturday.

The two women, aged 23 and 34, and three men aged 16, 42 and 48, are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said the driver’s brother raised the alarm after the alleged kidnappers contacted him.

“Police were informed by the victim’s brother who was contacted by the suspects, demanding R4,000 cash in order to release him,” Gwala said.

Police then used the driver’s vehicle tracker to locate him.

According to Gwala, the driver had met one of the female suspects through his e-hailing business the previous week.

They exchanged numbers, communicated throughout the week and eventually arranged to meet.

When the driver went to meet her, police said he was kidnapped by the group.

Gwala said the two female suspects allegedly raped the driver. 

The five were arrested following the driver’s rescue.
