UAAP: NU routs UE for first win in Season 89 - GMA Network
National University broke through in the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament after routing the University of the East, 76-56, on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Bulldogs had a strong start, outscoring the Red Warriors, 25-8, in the first period before taking their biggest lead, 39-16, in the second quarter. NU then closed the first half with a 42-20 lead.
In the second half, the Red Warriors outscored NU, 20-12, to close the third period trailing 54-40. However, a fourth-quarter surge from NU held off the Recto crew to claim the victory.
Reinhard Jumamoy led the Bulldogs with 12 points, while Mo Diassana had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kenshin Padrones, meanwhile, had 11 points and seven rebounds, while PJ Palacielo was a point shy of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Ola Ajani and Toper Lagat led UE with 11 points apiece, with the former also grabbing 10 rebounds.
NU improved to 1-1, while UE absorbed its 22nd straight loss as it fell to 0-2 this season.
