UP man urinates inside lift, continues even as doors open at several floors

A normal lift ride took an unpleasant turn at a high-rise in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh after a man was caught on CCTV urinating inside the lift and, rather bizarrely, continuing even as the doors opened at several floors.

The incident took place on Monday evening at Shipra Krishna Vista Society. The CCTV footage, said to be from the F-2 Tower lift, showed the man entering the lift before urinating inside it.

What made the footage particularly striking was that the lift stopped at multiple floors during the incident, with its doors opening each time.

Despite this, the man continued urinating before eventually getting off at his floor and walking away.

The incident soon became a problem for other residents, as a foul smell filled the lift. Several residents raised the matter with the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) and maintenance department, following which the CCTV footage was checked.

The man was identified from the recording, and the footage was later shared on social media by a resident.

The incident received a whole lot of criticism online, with people pointing out that residents spend lakhs of rupees on homes in high-rise societies expecting shared spaces to remain clean and orderly.

Many also said that such behaviour in an enclosed lift can be particularly unpleasant for elderly residents, children and others who have to use the facility.

Meanwhile, the society’s RWA said it would counsel the young man and warn him against repeating the behaviour.
