Upalokayukta directs officials to release elderly woman’s pension

Upalokayukta Justice B. Veerappa directed the Chikkodi tahsildar to ensure speedy resolution of a pension claim by an elderly woman in Chikkodi on Thursday.

He found the woman waiting at the tahsildar office. She had some documents to prove that she was eligible for social security pensions. However, her application had not been processed in scheduled time. Justice Veerappa asked officers to process her application and release pension as soon as possible.

He visited various offices in Chikkodi. At the taluk-office, he inspected the staff attendance register and directed the senior officer to withhold salaries of staff who were absent without authorisation. He also instructed that staff sign the attendance register twice daily.

Justice Veerappa gathered information regarding pending cases in the tahsildar’s court and examined various files. He reprimanded the staff for delays in issuing caste certificates and in the online data entry process. He visited the Sub-Registrar’s office, inspected the records, and sought an explanation regarding financial transactions found on the staff members’ mobile phones.

He also visited the taluk treasury, inspected the files, and directed the staff to maintain the movement register regularly.
