A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet has crashed near a NATO airbase Germany, it has been reported.

A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet has crashed near a NATO airbase Germany, it has been reported.

The incident is believed to have happened near Spangdahlem Air Base, in the region of Eifel, forcing the pilot to eject from the aircraft, according to RTL Today.

"Following a plane crash in the vicinity of US Air Base Spangdahlem, fire and emergency response teams from the Eifel District of Bitburg-Pruem were dispatched to the scene," the local district said on its website, adding that one person has been injured.

Initial reports suggest the pilot was attempting to land when the crash took place.

The aircraft is said to have plunged to the ground onto a golf course near the B50 road between Binsfeld and Spangdahlem.
