Han Liin Washington, DCPublished: 5:57am, 3 Oct 2026Updated: 7:01am, 3 Oct 2026Amid intensifying competition in the AI technology race, US authorities have arrested a California technology company owner accused of using Malaysia and Singapore as transit points to circumvent US export controls and send more than US$300 million worth of restricted computer servers to China.Greg Lui, 38, also known as Yiu Kong Lui, of San Gabriel, was arrested on Thursday and charged with conspiracy to violate US export controls, outbound smuggling and conspiracy to commit money laundering, according to the US Justice Department.
John A. Eisenberg, assistant attorney general for national security, said the indictment details alleged efforts to evade US export laws through false documents and complicated transshipment schemes designed to conceal China as the true destination for restricted artificial intelligence technology.
βThese chips are the product of American ingenuity,β Eisenberg said. βThe National Security Division will continue to enforce our export-control laws to protect that advantage.β
