US May Impose New Sanctions on People and Companies in Brazil Linked to PCC and CV - 21/09/2026 - World - Folha de S.Paulo

Targets in Brazil could face US sanctions in the coming weeks as part of efforts to combat the criminal organizations PCC (First Capital Command) and CV (Red Command).

US investigations to support the action have been intensive, according to officials following the issue who spoke to Folha on condition of anonymity.

The sanctions could target individuals, companies or institutions, including those involved in politics, whose members have some connection to the Brazilian criminal organizations.

Any new round of sanctions would be backed by a monitoring effort that has been underway for several months, with support from the Treasury and Justice departments and the FBI (a type of US federal police force).

Investigators have focused on tracing PCC and CV money flows in the United States. After identifying the origins and destinations of transactions in US territory, they also began cross-referencing data to identify links to residents in Brazil and their local connections.

The assessment is that there is already a signal of this intention in the Donald Trump administration's public accusation that the Brazilian government "failed to confront" the PCC and CV.

On Tuesday (15), the White House sent a document to Congress highlighting this assessment. According to the document, the two criminal organizations "have turned Brazil into a hub for global cocaine flows" and pose a growing threat to international peace and security.

The Trump administration also said the Brazilian government needs to take "aggressive measures" to combat and defeat the groups.

Brazil rejected the criticism on Wednesday (16). In a statement, President Lula's (PT) Ministry of Justice and Public Security said the Trump administration ignores Brazilian initiatives in the area and also fails to take into account the existing cooperation between the two countries.
