ValueJet, in partnership with Gateway Air, the Ogun State-owned airline, has commenced a daily service linking Abuja with Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, through Lagos. The new Abuja-Lagos-Gateway service is expected to improve access to Ogun State’s commercial and industrial corridor, providing an alternative to road travel for passengers travelling from the Federal Capital Territory to the state. Speaking on the new service, ValueJet Managing Director Omololu Majekodunmi said the early-morning schedule was designed to accommodate passengers with demanding itineraries. “Our daily Abuja–Lagos–Gateway service is about giving our passengers their day back. Whether you are travelling for business or personal engagements in Ogun State and its environs, the service provides a route that fits around a busy schedule,” he said in a statement on Tuesday. The service departs Abuja at 6:30 am, allowing passengers travelling for business meetings, industrial visits, government appointments and other engagements in Ogun State to arrive early and have most of the day available for their activities. Ogun has become an important industrial and commercial destination, with manufacturing companies, industrial estates, logistics businesses, agricultural activities, real estate developments and economic zones spread across the state. The state’s proximity to Lagos and its growing concentration of businesses have increased the need for transport links connecting it with other major economic centres, while Gateway International Airport provides an alternative entry point for passengers who would otherwise rely on road transportation. The Commissioner for Transportation, Ogun State, Olugbenga Dairo, said the state government was responding to growing demand from residents, businesses and visitors for improved air connections. “Gateway Air services speak to the growing demand of residents, businesses, and visitors in Ogun State for air connectivity to major commercial and population centres across the country,” he said. Dairo added that Governor Dapo Abiodun had directed the airline to continually review its schedule and fleet size in response to passengers’ needs. For ValueJet, the new route adds to its domestic operations and partnerships aimed at expanding connectivity, while the airline also operates regional services to destinations including Accra and Banjul. The airline said recent additions to its fleet, including Boeing 737NG and CRJ-series aircraft, would support its growing operations.
