Veeramani case: two IPS officers shunted out, placed on compulsory wait

Two senior IPS officers who were at the helm of the Chennai Police Commissionerate when a complaint accusing Gem Granites owner Veeramani of indulging in predatory sexual behaviour targetting minor girls first surfaced were removed from their posts on Thursday (September 24, 2026).
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K. Manivasan said in an order that A. Arun, ADGP, Tamil Nadu Police Academy, and N. Kannan, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore, were being transferred with immediate effect and placed on compulsory wait.
The order did not specify reasons for their transfer. But the development came against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Scheduled Caste department leader Ranjan Kumar revealing that as early as November 2024, he had given a complaint about the crime to Mr. Kannan when he was the Additional Commissioner of Police, Chennai. Mr. Kumar said the officer had told him that he would deal with the complaint after conferring with Mr. Arun, the then Commissioner of Police.
However, only last year did the police register a First Information Report (FIR) in the case, claiming that they had received an anonymous letter and pen drive (allegedly containing evidence of the sexual abuse) through a representative of a non-governmental organisation.
According to the Home Department order, DGP (Training) Rajeev Kumar will hold the additional charge of the Police Academy and R.V. Ramya Bharati, IGP, West Zone, will hold the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore.
