TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson face off in the thriller Verity, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel.

The film follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who agrees to ghostwrite Verity Crawford’s unfinished novel after a tragic accident leaves the bestselling author incapacitated. But after moving into the Crawford family home, Lowen discovers a disturbing manuscript that threatens to expose the family’s darkest secrets.

Although much of the story is set in Vermont, the Verity filming location spans several parts of New York. From busy Manhattan streets to a secluded estate in Armonk, the film uses real locations to bring its eerie world to life. Here are six filming locations featured in the thriller.

Before Lowen’s life takes a dark turn, she is introduced as a struggling writer reading from her latest book at Books Are Magic in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. The real-life bookstore provides a fitting backdrop for the aspiring author. Fans can even spot Colleen Hoover’s books on its shelves, although Lowen’s fictional titles are not among them.

One of Verity’s pivotal opening scenes was filmed at the intersection of Park Avenue and East 41st Street, near Grand Central Terminal. While heading to a meeting, Lowen witnesses a fatal car crash and soon afterward catches the eye of Jeremy Crawford, played by Josh Hartnett. The production used the busy Midtown location to capture the energy of New York City.

After the crash, Lowen goes to the Hachette Book Group office for a meeting that sets her ghostwriting assignment in motion. The production filmed inside Hachette’s real offices, which were dressed with fictional Verity Crawford book covers. In a fun Easter egg, Hoover also makes a cameo as the receptionist.

Lowen meets her literary agent, Corey, at Rolo’s in Ridgewood, Queens, to discuss her writing career and the opportunity that could change her life. The real-life restaurant makes a brief appearance in the film as the setting for this pivotal conversation.

Laissez Faire, a cocktail lounge inside the historic Beekman Hotel in Manhattan’s Financial District, serves as the setting for Verity and Jeremy’s first meeting. Its elegant interior and back-alley exit made it a fitting choice for the flashback scene.

The Crawford family home is the most important location in Verity. Although the story places the house in Vermont, the property used for filming is Beckoning Path, a private modern residence in Armonk, Westchester County, New York.

Surrounded by woods and a lake, the property’s striking architecture, including its V-shaped windows, helped create the mysterious atmosphere of Verity’s home. The production also added walls and bookshelves to the property, while some rooms were recreated on a soundstage.
