Vibe box office Day 1: Kunal Kemmu film opens low, beats Ek Din, Main Vaapas Aaunga
Actor Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial, Vibe, has opened to a slow start at the domestic box office. The action-comedy, which released in theatres on Friday, earned Rs 1.50 crore nett on its opening day, according to trade website Sacnilk. Despite the modest start, the film managed to edge past the opening-day collections of Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi-starrer Ek Din and Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, both of which earned Rs 1.15 crore on their opening day.
The film recorded an overall occupancy of 13.38 per cent across 3,194 shows. Its morning shows began with 6 per cent occupancy, which gradually picked up through the day, reaching 11.31 per cent in the afternoon and 14 per cent in the evening.
Delhi-NCR recorded the highest occupancy for Vibe, with 13 per cent across 440 shows. Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad followed with 11 per cent occupancy each, while Mumbai also registered 11 per cent occupancy across 328 shows.
Interestingly, Vibe has opened with the same Rs 1.50 crore figure as Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut, Madgaon Express. The 2024 film also had a slow theatrical start before finding a wider audience following its OTT release.
The film clashed with Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Daayra at the box office.
IndiaToday.in’s review of the film reads, “Vibe is messy, occasionally overstuffed and undeniably indulgent, but it also has a distinct comic voice. It knows that its greatest asset is not the mission, the twists or even the spectacle. It is the sheer joy of watching two hopelessly unprepared friends try to survive a world that expects them to know what they are doing.”
Written and directed by Kunal Kemmu, Vibe stars the filmmaker alongside Sparsh Shrivastava and Preity Zinta. The action-comedy follows two friends, Hardik and Bugs, whose ordinary lives take an unexpected turn when they become caught up in a high-stakes mission involving Indian intelligence agencies.
