Video: Drunk driver rams car into Ganesh Visarjan crowd in Diu, 8 injured

A car driven by a drunk driver crashed into a group of people during a Ganesh immersion procession in Ghoghla village of the Union Territory of Diu on Friday evening, leaving eight people injured, police said.

Diu Superintendent of Police Ram Krishna Charan said the driver was under the influence of alcohol when the car entered the crowd taking part in the Ganesh Visarjan procession.

According to Diu Police, a total of eight people who were part of the procession were hit by the car. The vehicle entered the crowd, triggering panic at the spot and leaving several people injured.

The injured were taken for medical treatment following the incident. Police are assessing their condition and gathering details about the injuries sustained in the crash.

Police identified the driver as Ebha Chavda, a resident of Rajpara village in the Upleta taluka of Gujarat's Rajkot district.

The driver was also injured in the crash and was taken for treatment. After receiving medical attention, Chavda was brought to the Ghoghla police station, where he is being questioned by police.

Diu Police have registered a case against Chavda under various sections and started further investigation.
