VIDEO: Voting delayed at Phoenix school after missing key - IOL
VOTING was delayed at Millview Primary School in Eastbury, Phoenix, after the key to the classroom designated as the voting station was handed over to IEC officials late.
The electoral officer in charge of the voting station said the caretaker informed IEC staff that they could not set up on Tuesday afternoon as the key was unavailable.
"When we arrived today, the key was not here. But it's here now," she said.
The officer, who did not want to be named, said voting would commence as soon as the station was set up.
Reshma Ragavan arrived at the school ahead of 7am as she had to go to work after voting.
"I am irritated because I got here early. I planned my day around voting and working and now we are standing here and the station hasn't opened," she said.
Maya Chotkan said she would have to "wait it out" because voting was essential.
"It's unacceptable that these arrangements were not made earlier. I am surprised that this has happened," she said.
Leslie Maduray, 78, said his name did not appear on the Special Voting list and hat to cast his ballot at a voting station.
"I thought I would be done by now because we got here early."
