Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday announced a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates applying for government jobs, offering relief to thousands of aspirants preparing for competitive examinations, news agency PTI reported.

The relaxation will remain in force for five years and will be applicable over and above the existing provisions for age relaxation.

According to an official government release, the decision was taken in response to representations from government job aspirants seeking additional opportunities to appear for competitive examinations.

"The age relaxation will be over and above the extant norms that govern age relaxations," the release stated.

Under the revised norms, the upper age limit for general category candidates applying for Group I services will increase from 32 to 37 years, while that for reserved category candidates will rise from 37 to 42 years.

For differently abled candidates, the upper age limit in the general category will go up from 42 to 47 years, while reserved category candidates will be eligible up to 52 years, against the existing limit of 47.

Similarly, for Group II and Group IIa services, the age limit for general category candidates will increase from 30 to 35 years.

For differently abled candidates in the general category, it will rise from 40 to 45 years. Reserved category candidates currently have no upper age limit for these services.

The government release clarified that the five-year relaxation would apply across different service groups and social categories, in addition to existing concessions.

The order is expected to widen the eligibility window for government job aspirants across Tamil Nadu.

The revised age limits will remain applicable for five years, providing eligible candidates additional opportunities to compete for state government positions.- EndsWith PTI inputs
