An official of the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISP) in Bhadravathi was found dead at his residence in New Town, Bhadravathi, on Monday (October 5). Govindaraj, 51, who served as assistant general manager of the electrical section at VISP, was a native of Salem in Tamil Nadu and had been working at the plant for the past nine years.

He had sent his wife and two children to his native place and was living alone. When he did not respond to phone calls from colleagues on Monday morning, they checked on him and found him dead. The police suspect he died by suicide.

The Bhadravathi New Town Police have registered an unnatural death case. Shivamogga Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil said no suicide note was recovered and there were no phone conversation recordings that indicated the reason for the act. Further investigation is under way.
