Vogue World Milan faces criticism after humanoid robots take the runway

Vogue World’s Milan edition has drawn criticism after humanoid robots appeared on the runway, with the performance receiving more attention than the fashion itself, TechCrunch reports.

During a segment titled The Age of Intelligence, robots made by Chinese company Unitree entered Milan’s Galleria, waving and performing dance moves to Gigi D’Agostino’s “L’Amour Toujours”.

TechCrunch said the performance quickly became a talking point, while Valentino creative director Alessandro Michele’s reaction also went viral.

The Milan event was promoted as a celebration of Italian craftsmanship and “the human touch” in an age of technology. It received support from Meta Glasses and OpenAI, according to TechCrunch.

The startup quoted tech founder Jason Johnson as saying, “Publications are figuring out new ways to make money and tech has money.”

TechCrunch reported that some fashion and technology figures felt the robots failed to demonstrate the more advanced ways AI and engineering are being used in fashion, design and art.

The next Vogue World is scheduled to take place in San Francisco.
