Two Lenasia men who were kidnapped from a Tobacco Junction in Lenasia yesterday remain missing.

The kidnapping of Reyhan Bhaijaan and Tameez Coovadia was captured on CCTV footage, which showed armed men pulling the two into a white Toyota Quantum at around 9am.

The pair were shoved into a vehicle, which had tinted windows and number plates which were allegedly false.

A relative of the men said in a post on Facebook that their phones were later tracked in Krugersdorp and were now switched off.

She said the incident has left their family extremely worried and desperate for answers.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said police would not comment on the case for the safety of the victims.

The Lenasia Community Policing Forum (CPF) told POST today that investigations were ongoing.

Crime expert Yusuf Abramjee said kidnappings are a serious and deeply concerning crime, particularly when it involves organised criminal networks. 

He said it causes enormous trauma not only to the victims, but also to their families and communities.

“In cases involving suspected kidnapping, the immediate priority must be the safe recovery of the victims. 

“At the same time, law-enforcement agencies must move swiftly to identify those responsible and dismantle the criminal networks behind these crimes.

“The public should avoid speculation or sharing unverified information, as this can potentially interfere with an ongoing investigation or put victims at further risk.”

Abramjee said kidnapping cannot be allowed to become normalised, and it requires a coordinated response from law enforcement, the justice system and communities.
