Watch: Raja D King hosts iPhone langar at bungalow, gives away 10, promises 100
Ten iPhone 17 handsets were handed out from a private bungalow in Chandigarh’s Sector 10 on Tuesday, as Amritsar-based businessman Rakesh Trehan, popularly known as Raja D King, went ahead with his much-talked-about ‘iPhone Langar’ despite the planned public event being stopped by the authorities.
Trehan had announced that iPhones would be distributed as prasad in Chandigarh and Mohali, with the giveaway originally planned as a public gathering. However, Chandigarh authorities intervened ahead of the September 22 event, citing concerns over crowd management and public safety.
Instead, the distribution was shifted to a private residence, where 10 iPhones were handed over. In a video message announcing the event, Trehan said, “We are giving 10 phones right now. We received so many calls which is why we could not create WhatsApp groups. We were supposed to give 100 phones. People of Chandigarh can come and take the phones anytime.”

Trehan had announced the giveaway on social media, promising iPhone 17 and higher models to selected people. The original plan involved a public selection process, with names being drawn in front of the crowd and the winners receiving their phones live.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav had directed the police to stop the proposed gathering, saying such an event could attract an uncontrollable crowd and create the possibility of a stampede-like situation. The administration also noted that no formal permission had been sought for the gathering.
The iPhone giveaway comes shortly after Trehan’s earlier ‘petrol langar’ in Chandigarh. In August, he announced free fuel coupons worth Rs 500 for two and three-wheeler owners and Rs 1,000 for four-wheeler owners.
That event, however, did not go as planned. Heavy rain forced its postponement, even as a large crowd gathered at a Sector 10 petrol station. No fuel was distributed that day, leaving several people who had turned up in the rain empty-handed. Police were also called in after the gathering led to chaos around the petrol pump.
