Taxi boss, Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, has returned to the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday.

Mpumalanga taxi boss, Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni returns to the commission on Wednesday after facing intense questioning over messages linking him to an alleged R500 million Moloto Road deal and claims about his influence over contractors.

The focus centred on a message stating: “I have a R500 million deal for Moloto Road. The director who got the contract wants to meet up with you.”

Sibanyoni told the commission on Tuesday that he did not know who had sent the message and disputed that he had authored it.

He suggested it may have been forwarded to him by an unidentified person.

Another message raised questions about a contractor who “used to report at the farm for all his Soshanguve projects, but he now knows there’s a new sheriff in town”.

The commission put it to Sibanyoni that the phrase could have referred to him as a new power figure following the death of former taxi boss Mswazi Msibi.

Sibanyoni rejected the description and instead told the commission he should be referred to as “the president”.

His return on Wednesday is expected to bring further scrutiny of the messages, their origins and what they reveal about the relationships surrounding the alleged deals.
