The houses allotted to 149 beneficiaries in the second phase of the Wayanad township project for the rehabilitation of survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide disaster will be made ready for occupation by November 30, 2026, Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar has said.
He was speaking after inaugurating the draw of lots to allot houses to the second batch of beneficiaries at Meppadi in Wayanad on Saturday (October 31).
The Minister said the financial support being provided to disaster survivors staying in rented houses had also been extended until December. βPeople have come together irrespective of caste, religion and linguistic barriers to support the affected families. The government is committed to easing their difficulties and ensuring their complete rehabilitation,β said Mr. Anilkumar.
As many as 178 houses were handed over to beneficiaries in the first phase of the township project at Elston Estate in Kalpetta. He said the government would continue its efforts to allot the remaining houses to eligible beneficiaries in subsequent phases.
Speaking at the function, Agriculture Minister T. Siddique said the rehabilitation activities being implemented in phases at the township were nearing completion.
The Minister said the government was extending all necessary support to help survivors rebuild their lives. Arrangements have been made to provide drinking water connections, electricity and documents relating to land ownership to the beneficiaries, he said.
Mr. Siddique said construction work on the houses would continue until November 20. An assessment meeting would follow, after which beneficiaries could visit their allotted houses and submit any complaints in writing. Further work would be undertaken after examining the complaints received, he added.
The second-phase allotment covered eligible beneficiaries in Phase 2A, Phase 2B and the appeal list. Of the 149 houses allotted, 23 were in Zone 1, six in Zone 3, 14 in Zone 4 and 106 in Zone 5.
