Welcome actor Mushtaq Khan dies of liver cancer in Mumbai
Actor Mushtaq Khan, known for his performances in films such as Welcome, Aashiqui, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, died today. He was hospitalised for the past 15 days while undergoing treatment for liver cancer.
His business partner Shivam confirmed the news to India Today. The actor was admitted to Mumbaiβs Nanavati Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. According to Shivam, Mushtaq Khan was first diagnosed with cancer around five years ago. The disease had recently relapsed, following which he was hospitalised.
The actorβs funeral will take place tomorrow. Further details about the funeral arrangements are awaited.
Mushtaq Khan worked in several Hindi films over a career spanning nearly three decades. He was best known for his roles in films such as Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993), Jodi No. 1 (2001) and Welcome (2007). He gained wider recognition for playing a disabled hockey player in Welcome.
Born in Baihar town in Madhya Pradeshβs Balaghat district, Mushtaq came from a Muslim family and went on to establish himself as a familiar supporting actor in Hindi cinema.
In November 2024, Mushtaq made headlines after he was abducted and held for ransom after being lured to Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of attending an event. According to reports, the actor was abducted on November 20 and taken from Delhi to Bijnor, where he was held captive and allegedly forced to pay a ransom of Rs 2.20 lakh.
