Wendy's releases new emo album with metalcore, pop punk vocalists - USA Today

The happy-go-lucky, pigtailed Wendy has gone emo, now donning asymmetrical side-swept bangs, black eyeliner and black hair bows.

On Sept. 23, Wendy's released a six-song emo album called "Songs to Listen to in the Wendy's Parking Lot" with no real explanation. The album is available for streaming on major music platforms and features vocalists from the emo music industry.

According to the song credits on Spotify, each of the songs was written and produced by Matt Squire, who has worked with artists like Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, One Direction, Selena Gomez and Panic! at the Disco.

As expected, the album and makeover, which Wendy's teased on Sept. 22, have garnered a good amount of social media attention.

"She's going through a phase," one Instagram user commented on Wendy's teaser post, and the fast food chain responded, "IT'S NOT A PHASE."

USA TODAY contacted Wendy's on Sept. 23 for further comment on the album, but has not received a response.

"Songs to Listen to in the Wendy's Parking Lot" is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, iTunes, YouTube Music, Tidal and Audiomack.

"Songs to Listen to in the Wendy's Parking Lot" has drawn attention from loyal Wendy's customers and even emo bands leaning into the fun.

"Cut my fries in two pieces," one Instagram user commented on Wendy's Instagram post debuting the album, referencing the opening line of Papa Roach's 2000 single "Last Resort," which actually says, "Cut my life into pieces."

"We were really hoping for album of the year, but there is absolutely no competing with this," metalcore band Motionless in White commented on Wendy's Instagram post. "Congrats on your win!"

Heavy metal and alt music magazine The Noise commented: "Need a mosh pit in the Wendy’s parking lot ASAP."
