Western Cape mayor, municipal manager, CFO arrested over corruption - TimesLIVE
A mayor, a municipal manager and a chief financial officer have been arrested in connection with an alleged corruption investigation involving a security services contract at a municipality on the southern coast of the Western Cape.
The three were arrested on Thursday by the SAPSβs political killings task team following information received by police about alleged kickbacks being solicited from a businessman who had been awarded the security contract.
National police spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe said the businessman was allegedly asked to pay kickbacks in exchange for the continuation of the contract.
βItβs alleged that the businessman had already paid hundreds of thousands of rands out of fear that his security services contract would be terminated,β Mathe said.
The three, whose names and their municipality have not been disclosed, face charges of corruption.
They are expected to appear in court on Monday.
