What is that mysterious hum keeping Cape Town residents awake at night?

Residents across Cape Town’s northern suburbs are baffled by a mysterious humming sound that has been reported at night in areas including Table View, Parklands and Blouberg.

Ward 113 councillor Sue van der Linde has set up a dedicated WhatsApp line to gather reports and recordings from residents trying to identify the source.

She told CapeTalk that she has received 148 inquiries since starting the initiative.

But despite several possible explanations being investigated, the source of the sound remains a mystery.
