What UNO taught Vedanta's Anil Agarwal about life, choices, finding your 'wild card'
Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal has shared a life lesson inspired by a simple game of UNO, drawing parallels between the game's colourful cards and the choices people make in life.
In a post on X, Agarwal said a young member of his team had introduced him to UNO a few days ago. While playing UNO, he began seeing each card as a small lesson about dealing with challenges, making decisions and recognising one's strengths.
The Skip Card, Agarwal said, reminded him that not every obstacle or argument deserves one's energy. “Some things are best ignored, and life moves forward much more smoothly when you learn to let go,” he said.
He drew another lesson from the Reverse Card, saying it showed how people can change the direction of a situation when things are not going their way. In his opinion, sometimes “one strong decision” can be enough to turn things around.
For Agarwal, the Wild Card featured the biggest lesson. Everyone has a “wild card” in life in the form of a quality, strength or gift that makes them different from others.
“If you learn to recognise it and use it at the right time, it can take you a very long way,” he wrote.
Agarwal also linked the game to success, saying thoughtful decisions and small opportunities can gradually create momentum.

One user wrote that the game is a reminder that “wisdom often lies in knowing which card to play” and, equally, which card not to play. Another pointed out that even when someone plays every card correctly, they can still lose to another player's random Draw Four.
