What you need to know about Isuzu's massive recall of D-Max bakkies - EWN

A big story in the motoring world this week is the latest vehicle recall in a string of these announced in South Africa so far this year and last year.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) alerted consumers to a product safety recall issued by Isuzu Motors South Africa, affecting more than 2,500 D-Max RG19 bakkies.

The affected vehicles were sold in South Africa between 11 May and 3 July this year. They were also exported to other African markets including neighbouring countries Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

The serious defect at issue here is the possibility of brake pedal pivot pins being loose.

This would result in the brake pedal moving sidewise during application, making it more difficult for the driver to fully depress the pedal and fully employ the brake.

Recalls are not necessarily a bad thing, remarks 702 resident motoring enthusiast Kumbi Mtshakazi, because they show that systems and checks are working.

"It's not about not trusting a brand because of a recall. Remember that vehicles are mass-produced and not every single thing that is assembled is tested after it's been built. But they will pick certain models to put through some serious tests. And the fact that they could pick this up means that comprehensive testing was done."
