‘Where is Dr Tavangar?’ Limpopo police issue urgent appeal after doctor disappears - IOL

A 61-year-old doctor has disappeared in Mokopane, prompting a police appeal for information after his phones were switched off and he failed to report for duty at the hospital.

Limpopo police are appealing to members of the public for information that could assist in locating 61-year-old Dr Rega Mohammed Tavangar, who has been missing.  

Tavangar, an employee at Mokopane Hospital, was last seen by his partner when he reportedly dropped her off at her rented room in Voortrekker Street, Mokopane, at around 6 pm. 

Police said Tavangar was reportedly travelling in a white Landwind motor vehicle with registration number KV3VM GP.

At the time, he was wearing grey jeans, black sandals and a brown shirt.

Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Maphure Manamela said that during the early hours of August 28, at about midnight, Tavangar’s partner reportedly received a payment from him into her bank account.

“At around 6 am, she contacted him regarding her wallet, which she believed she had left in his vehicle,” Manamela said.

“He reportedly informed her that he would send the wallet with her daughter, who is staying with him at the Mokopane Hospital Residence.”

However, Manamela said no further communication was received from Tavangar, and attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful, as his cellphones are reportedly switched off.

On September 3, Mokopane Hospital reportedly made enquiries about his whereabouts after he failed to report for duty.

Manamela said a missing-person case has been opened at Mahwelereng SAPS, and police investigations are continuing to establish Tavangar’s whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

The police appealed to anyone with information that could assist in locating Tavangar to contact Sergeant Maesela Ledwaba on 078 914 0087.
