Angine de Poitrine arrived on Quebec’s music scene like an entity from another planet, and now these polka-dotted, experimental-rock aliens seem set on conquering the world.

Over a matter of months, the masked Canadian oddities have dominated the rock music discourse, earning acclaim for their complex live performances and sparking conversation around their absurd outfits, which resemble piñatas come to life.

Earlier this month, they made their U.S. late-night TV debut on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and next week, they’ll finish a sold-out North American tour and descend on Massey Hall as one of 10 acts vying for the Polaris Music Prize on Tuesday night.
