Who is Tatiana Prozorova? Alex Eala's Round of 16 foe at Singapore Tennis Open - GMA Network

Alexandra "Alex" Eala is back in action, opening her Asian swing campaign in the Singapore Tennis Open Round of 16 against a foe familiar to Filipino fans.

Eala, the world No. 18 and third seed in the tournament, will lock horns against Tatiana Prozorova of Russia in the second round in her bid to win her second WTA 500 title following a breakthrough title run in the Mubadala DC Open last month.

The 22-year-old Prozorova is currently ranked No. 180 by the WTA and had a career-high of No. 140 she achieved in 2025.

That year, Prozorova made five semifinal appearances on tour, highlighted by a run to the last four of the WTA 125 Palermo Ladies Open in Italy, where she fell to Francesca Jones on clay before breaking into the world’s Top 140.

The following year, she actually set foot in Manila as she competed in the inaugural Philippine Women's Open at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. She also made an impressive run that time, beating Filipina Kaye-Ann Emana in the Round of 32 before outlasting Tatjana Maria and Sofia Costoulas in the next two rounds to reach the semifinals.

But Prozorova eventually exited the event after absorbing a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Donna Vekic.

Like Eala, Prozorova was also coming off the US Open, where she absorbed a loss in the first qualifying round against Kristina Liutova.

But Prozorova bounced back right away, reasserting her mastery over Costoulas in the Round of 32 of the Singapore Open to set up a first-ever meeting with the Filipina star.
