MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court (SC) dismissed the petitions against the adjusted voting threshold in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.

The Senate impeachment court’s September 23 decision stated that the court will count only the votes of senator-judges who are β€œlegally and factually capable” of participating in the proceedings at the time of the vote. Originally, the two-thirds voting threshold was fixed at 16 out of 24 senators.

After this decision, at least three petitions were filed before the SC last month.

But in its decision, the High Court dismissed the petitions due to lack of legal standing and prematurity.
