"Widow's Bay" made history at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, breaking the record for most Emmys won by a comedy series in a single year, a record broken by fellow Apple TV comedy "The Studio" in 2025.
Apple TV's wacky mystical comedy won a whopping 14 Emmys in 2026, including those given out at the Creative Arts Emmys just days before.
From acting to directing, "Widow's Bay" led the pack with a winning streak in the comedy categories, with members of the show's cast and crew celebrating individual and show wins. The show received a total of 19 nominations, third in line after "The Pitt" and "Hacks."
In addition to winning best comedy series, the evening's top prize in the comedy category, director Hiro Murai made Emmys history when he became the first Asian director to win in the outstanding directing category for a comedy series.
Creator Katie Dippold, like Murai, was also awarded an Emmy for her contribution β writing the show's premiere episode β in making the Emmy Award-winning show a success.
Matthew Rhys, Kate O'Flynn and Stephen Root were among the group of "Widow's Bay" actors who took home an Emmy in their respective categories, including lead comedy actor, supporting actress and supporting actor.
Rhys is in a league all his own following the ceremony, winning another Emmy for his work in Netflix's "The Beast in Me." He is the first male actor to ever win a lead acting Emmy for drama, comedy and limited/anthology series.
