Woman screams as man hurls 20 kg plate in Bengaluru gym. Cult cancels his membership
A 20 kg weight plate came dangerously close to hitting a woman at a Cult.fit gym in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar after a man lost his temper during an argument over sharing equipment. The gym has now cancelled his membership, while police have initiated legal action after the incident went viral.
The video, shared on Instagram by fellow Cult.fit member Rohan Pereira, shows the man removing a 20 kg plate and hurling it towards a woman.
She managed to move away just in time as the plate landed near her. Despite her shocked screams, the man continued throwing weight plates onto the floor. The incident happened during a busy hour at the gym, when members were sharing equipment and alternating sets.
The video also had two other members along with Rohan explaining what happened and raising concerns over the safety of other members at the packed gym.
“Hi, we are all members of Cult in Indiranagar, Bengaluru. I am sharing this video to raise a serious safety concern. This was peak hour, and the gym was almost packed. All of us were alternating sets of equipment because that's the only fair way to train when it's this crowded,” one of them said.
The men said the gym-goer insisted on having the equipment to himself. When they explained that members were taking turns, the situation escalated.
“So, one member, insisted that he needed the space for himself. When we explained to him that everyone was sharing, this is what happened. So, he took a 20 kg plate, and he started throwing it down recklessly. So, that 20 kg plate almost landed on one of us, and we could have been seriously injured,” another man said.
He added that the issue had already been raised with the centre manager twice, but they had not seen any action.
The third man then directly tagged Cult India and Cult.fit, saying the matter concerned the safety of everyone using the gym.
“One dropped plate is all it takes for someone to get seriously hurt, dude,” he said.
Following the video’s circulation online, both Cult.fit and the police responded to the post. The official Instagram profile of the Indiranagar Police said legal action had been initiated against the man involved. Cult.fit later shared an update, saying it had investigated the incident and taken action against the member.
“We take such incidents, affecting the safety of our members, with utmost seriousness. We have investigated the incident and cancelled the membership of the member involved,” the gym chain said in the comment.
