Yami Gautam flags AI-altered pics, urges media to use her images in original form

Actor Yami Gautam has made a sincere request to the media to refrain from using AI to alter or enhance her photographs taken at public appearances. The actor urged organisations to use her pictures in their original form, stressing that AI should not be used to manipulate an individual's image or likeness without their knowledge and consent.

In a post on X, the National Award-winning actor wrote, “A sincere request to the media. Please refrain from using AI to alter or enhance my photographs from public appearances. Kindly use images in original form. Altering or manipulating an individual’s image or likeness using AI should not be done without their knowledge and consent. Thank you in advance for respecting my request! (sic).”

Yami’s appeal comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of AI to manipulate images and videos of public figures without their consent. Several celebrities have been affected by such content, with a recent incident involving Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR drawing strong criticism from the film industry.

An AI-morphed, sexually explicit video featuring Janhvi Kapoor from the Devara: Part 1 song Chuttamalle has gone viral, prompting outrage. Jr NTR condemned the video, calling it “disgusting, sick and shameless”, while Chiranjeevi also spoke out against the misuse of AI to create degrading content targeting women.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Yami is set to headline Nayyi Navelli, which promises to blend fantasy, family drama, dark humour and Indian folklore. The trailer introduced her character, Mohini, a picture-perfect bride who arrived at a chaotic household in Meerut. She quickly became everyone's favourite as she cooked and settled into the family, but there appeared to be more to her than met the eye.

Directed by Balaji Mohan, Nayyi Navelli is written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. Aanand L Rai and Sharma are producing the film under Colour Yellow, marking the production house's first collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music.

The film is slated to release in theatres on October 16.- EndsALSO READ | Vijay Deverakonda backs Jr NTR, calls Chuttamalle deepfake 'digital sexual assault'
