The YSRCP on Sunday demanded re-polling in the municipal wards across the State where the exercise was allegedly disrupted by booth capturing and other electoral malpractices. It accused the State Election Commission (SEC) of failing to act despite repeated complaints.
A delegation, comprising MLCs Lella Appi Reddy, Kalpalatha Reddy, Murugudu Hanumantha Rao and Ruhulla, along with other party leaders, staged a protest outside the SECβs office and submitted a representation to the State Election Commissioner.
The leaders alleged that functionaries of the TDP-led coalition had occupied the polling stations, sent the YSRCP polling agents out, attacked the candidates, and prevented the voters from exercising their franchise.
They also alleged that contrary to court directions, CCTV cameras and webcasting facilities had been provided at only 6,000 to 7,000 of the 12,724 polling stations.
Citing incidents of alleged electoral malpractices in Pulivendula, Kadapa, Madanapalle, Chittoor, Chimakurthy, Macherla and Chilakaluripet, they sought cancellation of polling in the affected areas and re-polling.
Demanding accountability from the SEC, the police and the election machinery, the YSRCP leaders said they would pursue the issue of irregularities through both political protests and legal proceess.
