Zungu cries foul ahead of SAFA elections

The battle for the South African Football Association (SAFA) presidency has intensified, with presidential candidate Sandile Zungu accusing the current leadership of unfairly targeting regions that are pushing for change ahead of Saturday’s elective congress.

Zungu addressed members of the media on Monday afternoon, raising concerns over the disqualification of certain delegates and regions from participating in the upcoming elections.

“We are obviously putting on a very brave face. We are seething with anger in terms of what is being done to regions,” Zungu said.

“Our legends here have been disqualified in the forthcoming elections, and we believe unjustly.”

Zungu alleged that some regions that had attempted to change their leadership were subsequently prevented from participating in the electoral process.

“We believe some regions who are clearly forcefully pushing for change there was an attempt to change leadership, which did not succeed. As punishment for them, they are being disqualified from participating in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
